PI Natalia Jarska will present a paper titled “Applying ‘Vitamin M’ to the system: Polish experts, transnational exchanges, and the debate on infant homes in the late 1950s”, discussing the role of female experts such as Izabela Bielicka for the shaping of the understanding of early child development in 1950s Poland and the gradual shifting of state policies towards providing alternatives to infant homes.
Fanni Svégel’s paper explores the history and lived experience of Hungary’s védőnő – a unique, female-only profession of home visiting nurses – who played a pivotal role in mediating between family, medicine, and the socialist state.
PI Annina Gagyiova will also participate in the event as a panel chair.
